What Are The Steps To Spray Paint A Car ?

The saying ‘precious things need gentle care’ goes well with cars. The well-maintained car always makes you feel great. Car maintenance requires repairing, replacing, and customising its essential parts from time to time. But you cannot ignore the automotive paint that needs to be taken care of to make it last longer.

Painting a car is a professional job, and there are several ways to do it. One of these popular methods is using car spray paint. Spray painting is considered inexpensive and relatively simple. Here, we will guide you on how to repaint a car using spray paint at home in simple steps. But before that, you need to know about automotive spray paints.

Automotive Spray Paints

Automotive spray paints are different from ordinary spray paints. The reasons why they are the best choice to paint a car are their durability and availability in different colours.

Once you have made up your mind to go with spray paint, it is time to do it. Remember, you need to be patient and precise to give your car an elegant look.

Step 1: Choose a place that is clean, ventilated, and dust-free. Make sure that the ambient temperature remains between 15°C and 25°C.

Step 2: Double-cheque if you have a powder sander, an air compressor, automotive spray paint, primer, lacquer, paint thinners, safety glasses, masking tape, and newspaper.

Step 3: Prepare the surface by removing dust using paint thinners, rubbing it with an abrasive paper or sander, fixing dents if any, covering non-painting areas with masking tape, and washing the car.

Step 4: Apply 2-3 coats of primer to smoothen the surface with a 15-minute break. Let it dry and then sand the surface again. Now clean it with warm, soapy water and wipe it out with thinner.

Step 5: Spray six inches away and horizontally at 10-minute intervals on the newly primed surface. Apply 3-4 coats until the paint covers all the areas. Let it dry for an hour.

Step 6: Wipe the dried painted surface with a dry cloth. Finally, apply a couple of clear coats of lacquer with a 15-minute gap to give your car a glossy finish.

For some, cars are more than just a style statement. Most people love to repaint their cars for three reasons – to restore their appearance, to increase resale value, or to customise with their favourite colour. Because of the cost involved with getting it painted in a paint shop, car spray paint has emerged as the most convenient and cost-efficient way of painting. By sticking to this guide, you can give your car the desired look.
